The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Honorable Lynda Tabuya visited the Department of Women and Department of Social Welfare Office in Nausori and Nasinu.

Minister Tabuya was accompanied by the Director Women, Director Social Welfare and the Executive Support Unit Official. The Minister met with the staff and held discussions on the way forward in improving services delivery and the new government policies and initiatives.

While speaking to the Ministry officials, Hon. Tabuya conveyed the Prime Minister’s best wishes to the staff of the Ministry. “We are very excited to be here today and also be part of this amazing Ministry. I am new to the Ministry but I’m not new to the work that you do. It’s something that I’ve been doing on the past years, being part of the social work in my community”.

“I as your Minister and my Assistant Minister, Honorable Sashi Kiran will be supporting the work you have been doing. We have an open door policy. You can come and meet us. You have been serving more than seventy percent of the population of this country and I thank you for your hard work and commitment. You have been working round the clock to provide love, care and support to children, women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens and the vulnerable in the society,” she added.

“I want to share something with you and it’s a great feedback from our stakeholder Westpac Bank Nausori Branch. They want me to commend the Social Welfare team in Nausori. The team usually takes an extra mile to accompany the Social Welfare Recipients to Westpac Bank to open their new bank accounts and make sure that their allowances are paid. You are our unsung heroes and your Government appreciates the work that you have been doing,” Minister Tabuya said.

Minister Tabuya acknowledged the tremendous work carried out by her staff at the district level and stressed the need for efficiencies and compassion when dealing with clients. She held discussions with the respective officers on ways to make the Ministry and its service more visible to members of the public.
