Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Jese Saukuru had a meeting today (16/08/23) with the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Union to address recent concerns and social media outbursts surrounding the Raluve Competition held last week.
The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the welfare of the participating athletes and find a suitable resolution to the ongoing issue.
Minister Saukuru emphasised the importance of prioritising the welfare of every sportsman and sportswoman in Fiji. Acknowledging the impact of social media on public perception, the Minister expressed the need for a fair and respectful environment for all athletes.
During the meeting, the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Union assured the Minister that they are fully committed to resolving the issue and ensuring the smooth continuation of the competition. As a gesture of their commitment, they confirmed that this week’s games will be held at the prestigious HFC Stadium, providing a high-quality venue for the young talents to showcase their skills.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Union for their assurance and their efforts to address the concerns raised. He emphasised that fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for young athletes is crucial for their personal and sporting development.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, under the guidance of the Minister Saukuru, will continue to closely monitor the situation and work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful and safe execution of the Raluve Competition.
