“The 75-year history and work of the ICCR not only show India’s engagement in global development assistance but also how India has emerged as a key player in providing assistance to other nations while still being a developing country in per capita GDP terms.”

Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, the Hon. Biman Prasad, made this statement while officiating at an event organised by the Indian High Commission to celebrate the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

The event highlighted the strong cultural and historical ties between India and Fiji, dating back to 1879.

“I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the ICCR’s pivotal role in fostering cultural exchange, education, and people-to-people connections, including the establishment of the Indian Cultural Centre in Suva in 1972,” the Acting Prime Minister said.

Hon. Prasad congratulated the Shobna Chanel Dance Group for their upcoming participation in the India International Dance and Music Festival, noting that such initiatives strengthen the cultural and friendship bonds between the two nations.

He also expressed gratitude to the Indian High Commission for its continued support in enhancing bilateral relations, reaffirming Fiji’s commitment to valuing and nurturing its traditional and emerging ties with India.
