Communities in Ba will have access to a safer place of shelter during natural disasters following renovation and extension works at the Ba Anglican Church.
Government, through the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, provided building materials valued at $14,906 towards the project, which will enable the church to also serve as an evacuation centre for nearby communities.
Senior Pastor, Mr Jeke Maikali, said flooding during periods of heavy rain has made access to suitable evacuation facilities a challenge for residents in surrounding areas.
“The areas near the church are commonly flooded when there is heavy rain. With the renovation of the church, it will also serve as an evacuation centre where community members are welcomed,” Mr Maikali said.
With the project nearing completion, the upgraded facility is expected to provide residents with a safer and more accessible place to seek shelter during emergencies.
Mr Maikali thanked Government for the assistance, saying the investment would benefit not only the church but the wider community by strengthening safety and preparedness during disasters.
The assistance reflects Government’s commitment to supporting community resilience and improving preparedness to protect people during natural disasters and other emergencies.
