PACIFIC SETS CLEAR EXPECTATIONS AHEAD OF COP31

“By the time we leave Pre-COP, we should share a clear understanding of what the Pacific expects from COP31, and what delivery must look like for our region.”

This was the message from Minister for Information, Environment and Climate Change Hon. Lynda Tabuya as Pacific Climate Ministers gathered in Nadi this morning for a Pre-COP31 breakfast.

Minister Tabuya said the gathering provided an opportunity for Pacific Ministers to come together, strengthen regional solidarity and agree on the priorities the Pacific will carry into COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye.

She highlighted three key priorities for the region- keeping the 1.5°C target within reach, improving access to climate finance, and placing the ocean at the centre of global climate action.

She said climate finance must go beyond commitments and ensure resources reach governments, communities and people already responding to climate impacts.

Hon. Tabuya also stressed the importance of maintaining Pacific unity, noting that while countries face different circumstances, the region’s collective voice remains one of its greatest strengths.
