CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICES COMMISSION - MEDIA RELEASE

Following the expiry of the term of Mr Barry Whiteside as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji (‘Reserve Bank’), His Excellency the President, on the advice of the Honourable Prime Minister as Chair of the Constitutional Offices Commission pursuant to the powers delegated to the Chair of the Constitutional Offices Commission, has appointed Mr Faizul Ariff Ali, the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank to act as the Governor of the Reserve Bank for a period of 3 months or until a substantive appointment is made.

Further, section 15(3) of the Reserve Bank of Fiji Act 1983 states that in the event of a vacancy arising in the office of the Governor or the absence or incapacity of the Governor from whatever cause arising, the Deputy Governor appointed shall have and may exercise all the powers and functions of the Governor.

The Deputy Governor will assume his acting position from 28 May 2017.
