As part of a global effort to build support for Fiji’s presidential agenda at the 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-23), Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has outlined Fiji’s plans for the presidency at a meeting with the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Rt. Hon. Baroness Anelay of St. Johns.
At the London meeting, Prime Minister Bainimarama laid out Fiji’s vision as President of COP-23 and as co-host of the High-Level UN Conference on Oceans to be held in New York in June 2017.
During the bilateral talks, the Prime Minister and Baroness Anelay explored opportunities for closer economic cooperation between Fiji and the U.K. – particularly in relation to Fijian Made goods and Fijian sugar.
Prime Minister Bainimarama also noted Fiji’s bid for a seat on the Human Rights Council for the 2018-2020 term.
Prime Minister Bainimarama held the meeting in London prior to attending the 50th International Sugar Organisation Council Meeting. The Prime Minister will then go on to Brussels where he is scheduled to meet with the President of the European Council, Mr. Donald Tusk.
