International youth day to focus on PYF 2009 outcomes

The outcomes of the Pacific Youth Festival 2009 will be the focus of the International Youth Day workshop in Suva.

International Youth Day will be commemorated on the 12 of August and will be held at the Holiday Inn. with the theme Sustainability: “Our Challenge. Our Future.”

However, the Department of Youth and Sports and members of the Pacific Youth Festival Fiji alumni, National Youth Advisory Board will be organizing the workshop to raise local awareness and begin the implementation effort of the outcomes of the PYF 2009.

Panelists consisting of development partners, civil society and Government representatives are proposed in the program to speak on the five thematic areas on which the PYF declarations were made.

The proposed IYD program is therefore the start of an on-going effort to make the PYF a meaningful one with follow-up activities that will be taking place over a three-year period till the next PYF.

The one day program is intended to target secondary schools between the Suva-Nausori corridor and civil society organizations working in the area of youth development.

The Department hopes to attract a total of 130 participants for the workshop.
