JUSTICE WAIDYARATNE JOINS COURT OF APPEAL

 HIS Excellency, the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau ceremoniously swore-in a judge to the Court of Appeal at Government House today.

Justice Kapila Waidyaratne who has joined the ranks of judicial officers serving Fiji’s Court of Appeal comes with vast experience in the legal field.

Justice Waidyaratne, a Sri Lankan, attained his tertiary qualification at the University of Colombo and Sri Lanka Law College where he attained a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Masters of Arts in International Relations.

His professional qualification includes work as Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and as a Solicitor in England and Wales.

Justice Waidyaratne has practiced under the Attorney General’s Department and was holding the position of Additional Solicitor General in December, 2013.

He also served as a Trial Attorney at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia from 1998 until 2003.

Justice Waidyaratne has attended various training at the international level such as the Commonwealth Workshop on capacity building in combating terrorism in Singapore.

He has worked with multilateral legal bodies in various capacities.
