UNWTO JOINT COMMISSION MEETING INDUSTRY SUPPORT

The Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resources, Hon. Faiyaz Siddiq Koya recently received a cheque of $10,000 from the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA), as one of the Silver Sponsors for the upcoming 30th United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Joint Commission Meeting for East Asia and the Pacific (CAP).

FHTA’s sponsership will also include the UNWTO Commission for South Asia (CSA) and the Regional Seminar, that will be hosted by Fiji.

In receiving the cheque, Minister Koya highlighted the importance of the Meeting in elevating the Fijian tourism industry’s profile by being the first Pacific Island country to host a UNWTO Meeting.

“Hosting the Joint Commission Meeting for the first time in Fiji and the Pacific region is an achievement in itself and I thank FHTA executives for their support to Government. I am certain with the partnership of key stakeholders such as FHTA, the conference will be a success and deliberations from the three-day Meeting will be of great benefit to all stakeholders”, Minister Koya said.

In handing over the cheque, FHTA President, Mr. Dixion Seeto, thanked the Fijian Government for the opportunity to support a significant undertaking.

The 30th United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Joint CAP-CSA Meeting and the UNWTO Regional Seminar on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism Development will be held from 18 to 20 June of this year, at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa in Nadi.

Delegates attending the event include Ministers of Tourism, senior Government officials, industry practitioners and tourism experts from countries such as China, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Maldives, Pakistan and India, among others.
