The tourism sector’s contribution to Fiji’s gross domestic product is a significant fourty percent.
The was relayed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, while opening the 2025 National Hospitality Conference at the Pearl Resort, Spa & Golf Course at Pacific Harbour today.
The second conference was hosted by the Fiji National University’s National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC)which brought together industry leaders, educators, and key stakeholders.
DPM Gavoka highlighted that technology has revolutionised hospitality, from AI- powered guest services to seamless digital bookings and smart hotel solutions therefore it is imperative to keep pace with these advancements.
“We must champion smart tourism solutions that boost efficiency without sacrificing the human connection,” he said.
“Technology should enhance, not replace, the genuine warmth of Fijian hospitality—ensuring our guests enjoy both innovation and authenticity.”
“As we innovate, we must also prioritise sustainability and it is crucial that economic progress must align with environmental stewardship,” he added.
DPM Gavoka urged all stakeholders to explore green technologies— whether through energy-efficient systems, eliminating single-use plastics, or supporting sustainable supply chains.
“Let us prove that tourism and environmental care can thrive together, setting a regional example,” DPM Gavoka encouraged.
