Your Government continues to deliver on its commitment to fostering inclusivity and improving community infrastructure, with the official commissioning of the new driveway at the Lajonia Shree Sanatan Dharam Mandali (Lajonia Shiv Mandir) in Labasa by the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Hon. Charan Jeath Singh.
Funded under the Ministry’s Multi-Ethnic Grant Program, the $13,738.70 project will greatly enhance accessibility for more than 1,500 devotees who regularly attend the temple for religious, cultural, and community gatherings. The Lajonia Shiv Mandir has long served as a central hub for spiritual and social activities — from prayer services and festivals to educational and cultural programs.
Minister Singh highlighted that the project reflects the Government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening social cohesion, promoting inclusivity, and supporting cultural development across all communities.
“This project is more than a driveway — it’s a symbol of accessibility, unity, and progress,” said Minister Singh.
“It represents the Government’s dedication to ensuring that all Fijians, regardless of ethnicity or faith, can participate freely and safely in cultural and spiritual life.”
Previously, poor access to the temple posed difficulties, especially for the elderly, persons with disabilities, and families with young children during rainy days. The new driveway now ensures safer, smoother access — particularly during major festivals and weekly Ramayan recitals — strengthening community ties and preserving cultural traditions.
The project was completed through a partnership between the Ministry and the temple committee, with the Government funding the materials and the committee contributing labor.
This initiative demonstrates how Government-community collaboration continues to deliver tangible improvements that enhance quality of life, preserve cultural heritage, and build stronger, united communities across Fiji.
