12/05/2021

Staff members of the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management working on the frontline of Government’s COVID-19 containment efforts across the four divisions have been equipped with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The PPE were donated by the New Zealand Government through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

The donated PPE included safety boots, gumboots, reflector jackets and reflector vests. They have been deployed to the divisions to be used by the Provincial Administrators, District Officers and Assistant District Officers participating in Government’s COVID-19 operations.

Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Hon. Inia Seruiratu has conveyed Government’s appreciation towards the NZ Government for the timely assistance, saying the donated PPE’s would greatly assist staff members of the Ministry leading COVID-19 awareness and assisting in screenings conducted across the divisions.

“The welfare of our staff working on the frontline of our COVID-19 containment efforts is one of our utmost priorities and I’m thankful that this donation by the New Zealand Government will help ensure their protection while out working in the field,” Hon. Seruiratu said.

In addition to this donated PPE’s, the NZ High Commission had also recently donated 6,000 masks and 300 bottles of hand sanitizer to both the Office of the Commissioner Central Division and the Office of the Commissioner Western Division.

NZ High Commissioner to Fiji H.E. Jonathan Curr says the frontline workers have proven how important their work is as they bravely respond to people’s needs during the COVID-19 response.

The New Zealand High Commission is pleased to donate necessary PPE to ensure that they are prepared to respond to and safely perform their operations.

Mr Curr added that people all over the world were very grateful to frontline workers for the risks they were taking to fight the spread of COVID-19 and to protect the public.
