RESTRICTIONS ON FISHING FOR SUBSISTENCE PURPOSES ONLY

The Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport (Ministry), in consultation with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and the Ministry of Fisheries wishes to clarify the restrictions on fishing as stated in Marine.
 
NOTICE 22 OF 2021 BY THE MARITIME SAFETY AUTHORITY OF FIJI (MSAF).
 

1. Subsistence fishing is permitted, which limits fishing for the purposes of securing food only. This guideline is specifically for small crafts and fibre boats.
 
2. All subsistence fishers must provide the following details to the Maritime Surveillance Centre on the toll free number 1539;
 
a. Captain Name;
 
b. Boat Master License Number;
 
c. Vessel Details - Valid Survey Certification and Registration, Vessel Name and Make, Engine Capacity;
 
d. Crew Details - 5 maximum persons; Full names, Addresses and Phone
Contact;
 
e. Fishing area - to be within the containment areas and a 3km distance from their landing sites;
 
f. Estimated Time of Arrival and Estimated Time of Departure;
 
The Ministry emphasises the need to adhere to all health and hygiene protocols, including installing the careFIJI mobile application and keeping device Bluetooth turned on, at all times, maintain 2-metre social distancing and regular hand washing and sanitisation.
