MINISTER DR JIKO LUVENI
SPEECH AT THE OFFICIAL LAUNCHING OF THE
MINISTRY WEBSITE (www.welfare-women.gov.fj) AND
FACEBOOK PAGE (Department of Women-Team Women Fiji)

Members of the Media
Staffs of the Ministry

Good afternoon to you all. I am pleased to launch today the new website of the Ministry for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation’s and the new Facebook too.

This last quarter will record great strides, we have completed and our effort to inform our people and stakeholders on the core businesses of the Ministry and how the government perseveres to empower the disadvantaged and women in our country.

It makes this launch so enterprising knowing that the website and Facebook are the very platform to embrace that. The slogan “information is knowledge and knowledge is power” surfaces to mind. For us it is the communication that powerfully changes undesirable behavior to one of empowerment to bring out changed families, communities and societies.
It is inculcating self reliance into people to build a better generation across all cohorts of life. The public and our stakeholders and beneficiaries can now have access to quality information. After all, Fiji is committed to have a knowledge based society which is a Pillar 9 deliverable under the Charter.

There is great potential that these instruments will assist us to communicate better, and to serve our clients more effectively. The impact of social media cannot be underestimated nor denied. Credibility status are accorded to organizations with Facebook stance.

It fashions us to have a Facebook and wear the green attire for the Rural Women’s Days Celebration. We will be updating them regularly so that quality improvements progress on a time based manner.

Universal access to this is beyond imagination and available in rural remote centers and with the new Telecentres that has been commissioned by our government.

As the young generation indulges more on social networking sites, the ministry recognizes that we need to capitalize on this. This is the way to connect to youths, women, men, families, and community groups for knowledge to help them make the right choices in life.

I encourage the public to log into our website and face book page and to provide us feedback on how we can serve them better.
I look forward to seeing changes that are people friendlier, connecting and impacting.

Thank You.
