The position will achieve its purpose through the following key duties:
• Providing media reports to senior government officials on government’s activities and its presence in both the domestic and foreign media;
• Monitoring published and broadcasted news reports and measure government’s presence against its own programs and policies;
• Working with the Information services unit to ensure that these reports are used to strengthen government’s overall messaging and public information platforms;
• Organizing public relations events for the Department including radio talkback shows.
• Monitoring of both local and international Media;
• Researching and writing press releases for dissemination;
• Submitting periodic reports on a monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual basis;
• Compiling weekly news tally and the monthly PS talkback show reports;
• Filling in the news register to keep tab on the stories and alerts going out of the newsroom
• Identifying news and assisting in media release dissemination;
• Providing news and photographic support for the Department’s news services, in particular for news productions, social media, web, public affairs and publications. 

• A relevant Certificate in Journalism/Information system or completed Fiji Form Seven examination with 1year experience in news production;
• Must be prepared to work late hours, early morning shift and in weekends with minimum supervision;
• Problem solving skills and ability to communicate with people at different levels;
• Demonstrated ability to report writing, presentation, networking skills;
• Demonstrated ability to meet tight and immovable deadlines;
• This position requires someone with analytical skills and the ability to understand how the media operates and reports;
• Applicants should possess excellent written and communications skills with the ability to work under pressure;
• Demonstrate a high ability to work within a team and will be expected to provide support to other sections within the Department.

Compensation: Salary Band C: [$12,081.69 to $15,489.35]
