1. Lead the Fiji Bureau of Statistics to address its Mandate, implement strategic directions and evaluate the long term Vision as stated in ministry plans.
2. Provide high level advice on statistical matters, and development priorities to the Minister and the Permanent Secretary based on the activities of the Bureau.
3. Actively promote the use of statistical products in evidence based decision making across government and in regional and international forums.
4. Promote the introduction of latest international techniques, practices, standards, classifications and statistical software to produce top quality products and services.
5. Represent the Bureau in key stakeholder meetings, consultations and negotiations, locally and internationally.
6. Ensure all reports, releases and publications from the Bureau are high quality and meet stakeholder needs.
7. Lead all corporate requirements of the Bureau, including planning, budgeting, performance management and selection activities.

1. All mandated service deliverables for the Bureau are fully achieved, compliant with international standards, and delivered within agreed timeframes.
2. Quality and timely advice and services provided to internal and external stakeholders in accordance with the Bureau’s activities.
3. Quality, reliable, accurate and timely data output in reports and releases for national policy formulation and public consumption.
4. Timely and effective management of the Bureau’s personnel performance to enable business continuity, and high standard service delivery.

A relevant Master’s Degree, or equivalent relevant experience, with a 1st Degree in either Official Statistics, Population Studies and Demography, Economics or Management.
Knowledge and Experience:
• At least 5 years of experience managing a large team responsible for compiling, analysing and reporting on complex statistical data in a public or corporate environment.
• Demonstrated experience leading the data collection and analysis leading to the production of quality reports.
• Sound knowledge of statistical policy and data collection methodologies.
• Sound knowledge of relevant Fijian national policies, machinery of government and associated development challenges and opportunities.
• Understanding of change management approaches when implementing needed change in a diverse organisation.

Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to provide high level detailed advice and recommendations to senior management and key stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse complex data sets and ensure accurate reporting of data and information.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, think and perceive strategically and manage physical resources effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to promote and explain the use of statistical products in evidence based decision making, at all levels of government and in regional and international forums.
• Demonstrated ability to develop, lead and manage a high performing team with highly skilled interdisciplinary staff in a multicultural environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills with the capacity to represent the Ministry and Government effectively in national, regional and international forums and to interact and build strong network with stakeholders at all levels.
• Capacity to utilise computer programs to support the operations of a complex organisation.
• Service oriented approach, with a commitment to supporting the operational / corporate environments of the organization.

Personal Character and Eligibility:
Applicants for employment in the Fiji Bureau of Statistics must be sound health, with a clear police record. The successful applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance as a condition of employment. International applicants are welcome to apply, preference will be given to Fijian Nationals under 55 years of age where the person specifications are met.
