The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources is deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of our esteemed colleague, Mr. Raymond Mohammed, Manager Mines.
Mr. Mohammed passed away unexpectedly yesterday, leaving behind an irreplaceable void in both our organisation and the industry at large. Mr. Mohammed was a dedicated and invaluable member of our team, demonstrating unparalleled commitment, expertise, and passion throughout his tenure.
His visionary leadership, coupled with an unwavering dedication to the responsible management of mineral resources, greatly contributed to the advancement and sustainable development of our nation’s mining sector.
“Raymond’s sudden departure has left us in shock and profound sorrow. His legacy as an exceptional leader and his contributions to the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources will be remembered and cherished forever,” expressed Dr. Raijeli Taga, Permanently Secretary for the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources.
“Raymond’s untimely passing is a huge loss for the Ministry and an even bigger one for Fiji. Ray as he was known affectionately to us his colleagues were a loyal son of Fiji. He was working overseas in Indonesia in 2008 as a Mines Manager when he learnt of the need in the Mineral Resources Department for his expertise. He heed the call and has been with the Ministry since even with the numerous offers had been receiving both locally and abroad,” said Dr. Taga.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Mohammed will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and willingness to mentor and support his colleagues.
His positive impact extended far beyond his professional duties, touching the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have known him. In this difficult time, our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Mr. Mohammed’s family, friends, and colleagues as they navigate this profound loss. The Ministry has begun to receive sentiments Mr. Mohammed’s colleagues locally and abroad.
A note received from Professor Daniel Franks in Brussels, Belgium said “I write this on behalf of so many colleagues from Australia, Albania, Belgium, Brukina Faso, Cameroon, Colomobia, Jamaica, Mongolia, U.S, Uganada and Zambia. We have lost a collaborator and a brother. We will sorely miss him.” Details regarding memorial services and tribute arrangements will be communicated shortly as we honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Mr. Raymond Mohammed.
The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources requests respect for the privacy of Mr. Mohammed’s family during this difficult period and appreciates the outpouring of support and condolences from all who knew and worked alongside him.
