Members of the US Embassy Youth Council (EYC) have been given the reassurance of support by the Minister for Youth and Sports Hon.Jese Saukuru.
While officiating as Chief Guest at the Launch of the US EYC 2023 in Suva today (12.01.23), Hon.Saukuru said he is working now to plan his first year in his role, saying that he hopes to convene young leaders from across the nation to discuss how best we can make youth empowerment and capacity building a platform for the youth in the country.
The EYC, established in 2020, is an advisory and implementer body that works in partnership with the U.S Embassy Suva to constructively engage and empower the youth of Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu.
The United States Ambassador to Fiji and Kiribati and Ambassador-designate to Nauru, Tonga, and Tuvalu H.E Marie C.Damour officially launched the new cohort, welcoming members and impressing upon them the impact that they would have on the U.S. Embassy’s youth engagement.
Ambassador Damour also commented on the last cohort of 2020-2022 who persevered against the limitation imposed by COVID-19 pandemic.
She said that despite the lockdown and travel restrictions, they found meaningful ways to improve the lives of Pacific Island Youth, most notably through virtual talanoa sessions, which reached more 20,000 youth and gave them the social support necessary to emerge from the COVID-19 crisis.
