The Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Lynda Tabuya, met with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, to discuss Fiji’s ongoing collaboration with UNESCAP.

The meeting focused on raising awareness about climate finance and developing financial solutions to address social protection issues caused by climate change.

Minister Tabuya shared ideas about the “Care Economy” in the Pacific and proposed a “Village-Integrated Care Initiative” for Fiji, inspired by a similar project in Tonga supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

She also emphasised the need to empower women by supporting small and medium-sized businesses for women entrepreneurs, highlighting the importance of providing capital, investment opportunities, and savings programs to help women succeed.
