A newly refurbished nurse’s quarters at the Vunitogoloa Nursing Station in Ra was officially opened today.
The new quarters, funded under the ‘Primary Healthcare Facility Refurbishment Projects’ of the Government of New Zealand is expected to boost the morale of the nurses serving at the station.
The Vunitogoloa Nursing Station serves six villages and 11 settlements, providing healthcare services to approximately 3,000 people.
Designed to support the elderly and physically challenged, the new building cost $196,000.00, wholly funded through the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu reiterated Fiji’s appreciation for the ongoing commitment, partnership, and assistance provided by the New Zealand government, through MFED towards the improvement of infrastructure and health programs.
“We are extremely grateful. Please convey our appreciation; the vanua and the Western Division also appreciates that your tax dollars have been put to good use,” said the Minister.
“The people of Fiji, especially those in the Western Division, have felt its impact and appreciate the work that has been done,” Hon. Lalabalavu added.
Since the inception of the project, seven health facilities have been upgraded under the Primary Healthcare Facility Refurbishment Projects, continuing the commitment to strengthening our healthcare system.
So far the New Zealand government has spent a total of FJ$3,867,281.81. in the upgrade of the primary healthcare facilities refurbishment project.
These facilities include Galoa Nursing Station, now a Health Centre, Makoi Health Centre, Wainibokasi Pharmacy, waiting area & SOPD clinic, Nausori Health Centre, Korovou Health Centre, Dogo Health Centre, and Vunitogoloa Nursing Station.
