For Bhavishnal Singh, life has been a journey marked by hardship. Living with Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic disorder that affects muscle strength and mobility, the young man from Yalalevu, Ba, has faced challenges that would have stopped many. However, his story took a powerful turn toward hope and independence this year.
Bhavishnal studied at Ba Special School, but due to a lack of family support, he was unable to continue his formal education. His struggles deepened when he lost his mother on Christmas Eve at just eight years old. His father later left, and Bhavishnal was taken in by his uncle and aunty, with whom he still lives today. Despite the care he received, the journey was never easy, compounded by his disability and experiences of family neglect.
From a young age, Bhavishnal showed a strong interest in graphic designing. His medical condition remained a constant barrier to employment and career development. Determined not to give up, he pursued his passion and went on to become the 107th graduate to receive a Certificate in Graphic Designing from the University of Oxford, a remarkable achievement given his circumstances.
On a deeply emotional occasion yesterday, Bhavishnal received a Brother MFC-L9570CDW Color Laster Printer along with four carton A4 Paper that will enable him to start his own home-based business. The printer was officially handed over to him by the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Sashi Kiran, through social welfare assistance provided by the Ministry.
Describing the moment as “life-changing,” Mister Singh said the support has given him renewed confidence and independence. With the printer, he plans to begin designing and producing greeting cards from home using online design tools, creating a sustainable source of income despite the limitations posed by his condition.
“I never imagined that a minister would come to my house to personally hand over something that will change my life,” Mister Singh said. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Women and Social Protection and acknowledged the government’s continued support for people with special needs.
This event reflects the government’s strong commitment to the disability community, ensuring that no one is left behind. It highlights a broader vision of inclusion where individuals with disabilities are supported, and given equal opportunities.
