The graduating class of 2025 at Pacific Polytech in Lautoka was today reminded that their roles extend beyond mere employment—they are vital pillars of Fiji’s tourism sector.
During the graduation ceremony, Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, Hon. Alitia Bainivalu, emphasized to the 147 graduates that they are the hands and hearts responsible for enhancing Fiji’s reputation as a premier global destination.
Hon. Bainivalu addressed the graduates in Housekeeping (51), Restaurant Services (38), and Front Office (58), highlighting that today’s celebration not only marks their individual successes but also reflects the shared vision and mission of Pacific Polytech.
She explained that Pacific Polytech was established with a clear purpose: to address the critical skills gap in Fiji’s workforce. With the country’s thriving tourism industry in need of well-trained professionals, the institution was founded to serve as a beacon of hope and opportunity for young Fijians seeking meaningful and sustainable employment.
“Thank you for your commitment and perseverance. The path you have chosen was not the easiest, but it will lead to a brighter future,” Hon. Bainivalu said.
“You have invested in yourselves, and in doing so, you have invested in Fiji. I wish you all the best as you embark on your professional journeys—whether that means finding fulfilling employment here at home or seeking opportunities abroad.”
She also urged graduates to remain committed to honest pursuits despite various temptations. Emphasizing the importance of integrity, she stated:
“In a world filled with shortcuts and temptations, you have chosen to hustle clean. You have prioritized hard work over dishonesty and integrity over fleeting gains.”
Hon. Bainivalu warned against illicit activities such as drug peddling, noting that such choices risk not only personal futures but also the reputation of their families.
She praised the graduates for choosing honest, dignified work as a testament to their character.
Concluding her remarks, she offered words of encouragement: “May you always find strength in knowing that your success has been earned through honest effort and unwavering determination.”
Her message resonated deeply with the graduates and attendees, inspiring them to continue their journeys with integrity and perseverance.
