Ladies and Gentleman
Ni sa Bula Nakwa and a very Good Morning to you all.
Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for gathering here today to mark a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to provide sustainable housing solutions for our residents. It is with great pleasure that I stand before you as the Minister for Housing to officiate the opening of these 20 newly constructed houses in the vibrant community of Koroipita.
Today’s- event represents more than just the construction of buildings, it embodies our commitment to fostering inclusive and thriving communities. As we cut the ribbon to these beautiful homes, we are also cutting through barriers that have long hindered access to safe and dignified living spaces of our residents.
These homes have been meticulously designed to not only meet the basic needs of shelter but to provide an environment where families can truly thrive. Each house stands as a testament to our commitment to quality living.
I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have contributed to the realization of this project, from the architects to the construction workers who labored diligently and to the community members who have shown unwavering support throughout the journey.
As we celebrate this achievement, let us also remember that our work is far from done. Our commitment to affordable housing, sustainable development and community empowerment remains steadfast. Together, we shall continue to explore new avenues, embrace innovation, and forge partnerships that will lead us to a brighter future.
In the last 6 years, the Fiji government has provided a total allocation of more $3million for the development of fully serviced subdivisions with wide road access, electricity, clean water supply, sewerage treatment, storm water drainage and a garbage collection system.
In this financial year, a total budget allocation of $1.7 million has been provided to Koroipita Model Town for land development, and construction of 16 homes.
Koroipita Model Town has been outstanding through its provisions of safe housing and services for our under-privileged people. It has enable an entire generation of more than 700 young people to achieve better job opportunities and enhance socio-economic stability.
I would like to acknowledge New Zealand MFAT for their continuous support and working with the Fiji Government to safeguard the livelihoods of our people through this project.
I also would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the residents who will soon call these houses homes. May these spaces be filled with joy, love and opportunities. Let us all be inspired by the success of Koroipita and carry its spirit forward as we work towards creating more inclusive and thriving communities across our great nation.
With those few words Ladies and Gentlemen, it is now my pleasure to officially open the 20 new homes.
Nakwa Vakalevu.
