The Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Hon. Charan Jeath Singh, met with the Fijian diaspora community in London to share the government’s plans and vision for creating equal development opportunities for all communities and enduring connections between Fiji and its diaspora.
Minister Singh took the opportunity to provide an update and plans, sharing valuable insights into his ministerial responsibilities and outlining future plans for Fiji’s sugar industry. He expressed his appreciation to Fijians living abroad for their contributions towards Fiji’s development.
“In the year 2022, the remittances reached a remarkable $1 billion, and that has been a support for many families back home, as well as vital support for Fiji’s economy. The continued growth in remittances reflects not only your hard work but also your unwavering commitment to Fiji.”
The discussions during the meeting were centered on the importance of collaboration to create opportunities that benefit Fiji’s commitment and contribute to national progress.
He further alluded to the Coalition Government’s commitment to the re-establishment of the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, which is focused on fostering inclusivity and equality and creating a socially cohesive society amongst all ethnic communities.
Minister Singh further invited the Fijian community in the United Kingdom to continue engaging with the Fiji Government to share experiences to develop policies that reflect the needs of all Fijians, as their contributions are vital for the nation’s future in building prosperous Fiji.
