The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management is strengthening efforts to improve the delivery of Government programmes and projects that support Fijians living in rural, maritime and outer island communities.
With an allocation of $35.4 million for the 2026–2027 financial year, including funding for 16 capital programmes and projects, the Ministry is focusing on timely implementation, effective use of resources and improved services at the district and community level.
Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Hon. Mosese Bulitavu, said the focus must remain on ensuring Government investment delivers practical benefits to communities.
“It is not enough to simply spend our allocated budgets. What matters is whether we deliver quality outcomes on time and whether those outcomes make a meaningful difference to our rural and maritime communities,” Hon. Bulitavu said.
The Ministry will also continue work on the National Rural Development Policy while strengthening district operations and addressing administrative, procurement, financial and logistical challenges that can affect service delivery.
These efforts are aimed at ensuring communities, particularly those in remote and maritime areas, have better access to Government assistance, infrastructure and development opportunities.
