Water woes for Vunisavisavi Village in Cakaudrove will now be a thing of the past following the commissioning of their new Groundwater Project today (20.01.23).
The Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Hon. Filimoni Vosarogo, while officiating at the event, said this was in line with one of the Government’s fundamental principles on water and sanitation – ‘Access to an efficient, cost-effective water supply that is equitable’.
“Water, as we all know, is very important for preserving our health and maintaining good hygiene,” Minister Vosarogo said.
“Without a safe and consistent water source, the health of community members are affected, which directly impacts their ability to contribute to socio-economic development, and also affects, the academic performances of the children.”
He reminded the community members that maintaining the system required consistent attention, periodic maintenance, and was fully dependent on electricity as a source of power for the pump.
“Therefore a very active water committee that is supported by the community is critical to the sustainability of this scheme,” Minister Vosarogo said.
“You will now be able to enjoy a better quality of life as water plays a critical role in our daily lives; from drinking, bathing, washing, cleaning and proper hygiene and sanitation.”
The $200,000 water project will benefit 10 households consisting of 32 people residing in the village.
