Government’s commitment for the protection of children’s rights is also aligned to Fiji’s ratification of the Convention on the Rights of a Child (CRC) as well as the International Labour Organization Conventions on Minimum Age and the Worst Forms of Child Labour.
We are here together to strengthen our commitment as a region to join the global effort in our response to HIV & AIDS through the visionary goal – zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, and zero AIDS-related deaths.
I am indeed pleased to be invited to speak at this important forum. At first I was somewhat surprised when I heard the title “Law and NCD” and wondered whether this was something new.
Today we give thanks for the life of a great man, a man who many of us never met, yet who touched us all.
I strongly believe that the region has the technical expertise and good practices informed by evidence, needed to take us to the next step in ending AIDS in the region.
I am here in my capacity as the Patron of the St John Association of Fiji. For those of you who do not know, I have had a very close working relationship with the organization for well over five decades.
Thank you for the kind invitation for me to officially launch this research report entitled and I quote: “treatment is my life now”: experiences of treatments among people living with HIV in the pacific islands,” unquote.
I am greatly honoured to join Colgate Palmolive for the second time as Chief Guest to celebrate Fiji’s National Toothbrushing Day.
The growth of the organization to what it is today is a direct reflection of the dedication, the compassion or the ‘big hearts’ so to speak, of all those who were involved in its initial establishment and during its development over the years.
I understand that for some of you tonight may be your last night in Fiji but nevertheless I extend to you the warm greetings and the well wishes of the people of Fiji.
