29/1/14 - FIJI AND INDONESIA TO BUILD TIES ON YOUTH AND SPORTS DEVELOPMENT

Cabinet has approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Indonesia for Cooperation in the field of Youth and Sports Development.

Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Viliame Naupoto.

The Minister said that MOU is to strengthen ties between the two countries and promote youth and sports development on the basis of reciprocity, mutual understanding and benefit.

He said under the MOU, both countries shall engage in youth exchange program and exchange of visit by government officials in charge of youth policy making, cooperation between youth organizations of both countries, as well as allowing for the organizing of training programs in various areas to increase youth capacity.

He said that the MOU will also allow for exchange of visits and cooperation between coaches, experts, specialists, and trainers in the fields of competitive sports, sports for all, sports science, sports medicine, and sports law, and cooperation between sports organizations of the two countries to facilitate seminars, researches, science and technology, as well as the exchange of other information and communication materials.

He also said that MOU will allow for development of sports industry and cooperation to improve sports achievement of the two countries, including training camp and try out, and organizing friendly competition of various sports as well as promoting and developing traditional sports.

The MOU will enter into effect on the day of its signing.
