Anticipated government-provided food rations are expected to commence as early as tomorrow in the Western Division. Currently, a total of four Evacuation Centres have been activated, accommodating 61 households and 234 individuals in the Western Division.
The designated Evacuation Centres are Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.
These centres have been receiving donations of cooked meals and hygiene kits from various faith-based institutions, non-governmental organisations, and the Ministry of Health.
Furthermore, the Fiji Red Cross is supplying dignity kits to the Saioni and Korovuto Secondary Evacuation Centres.Public advisories have been issued as part of precautionary measures, with an emphasis on the need for individuals to remain prepared and to avoid unnecessary risks.
The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), along with the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), is currently active.
The other three Divisional EOCs are closely monitoring the weather situation in their respective regions.
Flood Warning Update
A Flood Warning remains in effect for areas susceptible to flooding near and downstream of the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers. Additionally, a Flood Alert is in place for flood-prone regions adjacent to and downstream of all major rivers across Fiji.
As of this afternoon, flooded areas in Nadi include: - Nadi Back Road- Malolo Transmitter Road- Jack Navo Road- Nasau Tuberua Road- Qeleloa Bila Settlement- Nawaka Train Line - Nawajikuma
Police officers are on standby to assist with the evacuation of residents in flood-prone areas, should it become necessary.
The public is strongly urged to evacuate if required and to do so during daylight hours to ensure safety.
Police will also restrict movement for the public tonight.
