A total of 70 youth participants have graduated from the Mobile Skills Training on Boat Masters License.
The two-week training was facilitated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in partnership with the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF).
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Parveen Kumar Bala, while officiating at the event held at Nasilai village in Nakelo yesterday (11/03/22), said those who work in the maritime environment, their livelihoods depend on getting proper training and certification.
"I encourage all boat captains to adhere to the Maritime and Safety laws and put into practice what you have learnt from this training."
"The people depend on you and you must return their trust by applying the best practices of seafarers when operating a boat. As captains, you’re accountable for the lives of your passengers. It is your duty to ensure safety at all times for your passengers and yourself,” he added.
The training participants completed two modules on Boat Masters and Restricted Master/ Engineer Class 6 - Nautical Knowledge.
