Fijian youth from the Eastern Division have concluded a three-day Empowerment training focused on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) today.

Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Alipate Nagata, while officiating at the Closing of the Virtual Empowerment Training on SRHR, said that all young people have the right to health services and correct information.

“As a young person you should be informed of choices available that will help you make the right decisions about your life,” he said.

“As part of family planning an individual should be spiritually, physically, financially, socially and mentally ready before starting a family.”

He said the youth will need to know ways of protecting themselves and reducing the risk of teenage or unwanted pregnancy.

The Ministry has accomplished a total of 20 SRHR trainings in the last financial year, with a total of 876 trainees who have been empowered as a result.

In addition to this figure, the Ministry now records an additional 15 youth participants who have accomplished the training today.

The three-day training was facilitated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in partnership with the Empowerment Pacific.

Youth health and wellbeing remains an area of priority for the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
