16/08/2022

An Australian Approved Employer, Jose Batista Sobrinho (JBS), paid a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Mr Osea Cawaru for more recruitment of Fijians under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme yesterday (15/08/22).

The JBS team comprised of PALM Coordinator for JBS Australia, Ms Faamita Faalava; JBS Australia (Tasmania site) Human Resources Manager, Racheal Pulford; Primo Foods (Wacol site, Queensland) Human Resources Business Partner, Mr Paul Dimaculangan; and Primo Foods (Chullora site, New South Wales) Recruitment Coordinator, Mr Stanton Jaftha.

The JBS Australia (Tasmania Site) Human Resources Manager, Ms Pulford thanked the Permanent Secretary for his time to meet with the team and also provided a brief update on the purpose of their visit to Fiji.

“We are here to interview 50 registered Fijians for the Meat Works Industry following the good performance of 40 Fijian workers who are currently deployed with us”.

“These workers joined us in June this year and have displayed excellent and amazing job performance.”

“We are a beef processing plant and in need of more labourers due to some major upgrades where we will need to produce 600 beef a day compared to our current production of 550 beef a day.”

We’re glad to be here in Fiji to conduct face-to-face interviews for the first time for our third cohort,” added Ms Pulford.

On behalf of the Fijian Government, Mr Cawaru thanked the JBS team for visiting Fiji to recruit potential Fijian workers for employment opportunities in Australia.

He highlighted that the Ministry continued to review its standard operating procedures (SOPs) to match the market demands and in ensuring that Fiji supplies the best labour to overseas employers.

Mr Cawaru further added that it is the overseas employers that do the selection of workers and not the Ministry.
