04/02/2026

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) hosted the 4th meeting of the Blue Prosperity Fiji Taskforce (BPF TF).

The BPF TF was established to advance ocean governance and to assist the Fiji Government in implementing its ocean commitments in line with the vision for healthy oceans.

During the fourth Taskforce meeting, the group discussed next steps for national Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) efforts. Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Sivendra Michael updated the group on the process and next steps of Fiji’s National Marine Spatial Plan.

The national MSP will serve as a strategic framework to guide the sustainable use, protection, and management of Fiji’s marine resources, as well as strengthen government coordination.

The Blue Prosperity Fiji Taskforce continues to play a critical role in advancing coordinated ocean management, ensuring that Fiji’s marine resources are protected while supporting sustainable development and livelihoods for current and future generations.

The BPF Taskforce is chaired by the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, Dr. Lesi Korovavala and co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Sivendra Michael.
