BONUS PAYOUT FOR FPCL

03/08/2022

Fiji Ports Corporation Limited announced a bonus payout of $243,907.61 for 132 of its employees in Suva yesterday (02/08/22).

Also present at the event was Aitken Spence PLC representatives Dr Parakrama Dissanayake and Mr Iqram Cuttilan.

In his remarks, Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum commended the FPCL management, board of directors and shareholders for their vision, “To be the Smart, Green Gateway for trade in the Pacific region”.

The A-G highlighted that digitalisation is the way forward and that businesses can be managed on e-Platforms like FPCL in order to improve services and reach more customers.

FPCL now has systems for automated invoicing, online payment, and automated berthing application, which gives an edge over other regional Ports.

FPCL also paid dividend of $13.4 million to the Shareholders:
● The Fijian Government will receive 41 percent or $5.49 million;
● Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) 39 percent ($5.22 million); and
● Aitken Spence 20 percent or $2.68 million from the total dividend.

Sharing similar sentiments, FPCL chair and Permanent Secretary for Commerce, Trade and Tourism Shaheen Ali highlighted despite 2021 being another challenging year, with the continued COVID-19 restrictions world over, the FPCL was able to put in place risk mitigation measures that ensure business continuity – despite some ports being closed globally.

Mr Ali added FPCL managed to record a Net Profit After Tax (NPAT) of $22.34 million. This was a slight reduction compared to 2020, because of the global downturn, leading to a reduction in vessel numbers and zero cruise liner visits.
