The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro wishes to inform all parents, guardians, students and bus operators that Cabinet agreed that Government fully subsidize increased bus fares effective from 1 September 2024 for all students with blue and yellow bus cards.
“I am pleased to advise that government will fully subside the increase in bus fares. That would be 100% subsidy on the blue cards, and 50% on the yellow cards, there is no burden to parents,” confirmed Honourable Radrodro.
The Minister further advised that “our Ministry along with the Ministry of Information had earlier released the information sheet on the subsidy. You continue to use your Blue Cards and Yellow cards as you have been doing so in the past. The Blue cards can be redeemed from Tuesday 3 September, and the Ministry would pay the 100% subsidy direct to Vodafone at the end of each month. Whilst those with Yellow Cards would use the same process of being topped up by their parents and the Ministry would pay the 50% subsidy direct to Vodafone at the end of each month.”
The current restrictions on Blue Subsidised card usage will remain in place:
•Blue Cards are blocked on School Holidays and weekends.
• Restricted usage times for Blue Subsidised cards:
- 6.30am to 9.00am and 2.30pm to 5.00pm.
A 15 mins black out period between taps for Blue Card holders
