CARE AND PROTECTION ALLOWANCE PROGRAM ASSISTS MORE THAN 9,000 FAMILIES

The Fijian Government’s Care and Protection Allowance have assisted more than 9,000 families from August 2021 to date.

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar said that the Care and Protection Allowance is a social protection scheme specifically targeted at assisting poor and vulnerable children through providing monthly cash allowances and food vouchers.

The beneficiaries include children living in single-headed households, children with elderly caregivers, children with disabilities and children in residential care homes.

Minister Akbar said the Ministry is pleased that the Fijian Government’s budget for 2021-2022 continues to support the funding of the existing social protection programs/schemes such as the Poverty Benefit Scheme (PBS), Disability Allowance (DA), Social Pension Scheme (SPS), Rural Pregnant Mothers Food Voucher Program, and the Care & Protection Allowance (C&P). The budget allocation for the Care and Protection Allowance is $12.3 million for this fiscal year.

Applications for Care and Protection Allowance can be lodged at the nearest welfare office. Applicants will be required to fill an application form which will be validated by a welfare officer.

Applicants will need to provide documentation including a birth certificate, with the same documents for their children, including their birth certificates, school letters (if children are schooling), a letter from a recognised community leader, two passport-sized photos for each family member under the scheme, TIN or combined FNPF number, vaccination card, and bank account details.
