A Start Your Business training was recently held for selected recipients of the Welfare Graduation Program (WGP) in the Central Division.
The training is part of the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection efforts to help social welfare recipients earn their own income, improve their daily lives and rely less on government support.
A total of 29 people took part in the four-day training, including 23 social welfare recipients from Vunidawa, Korovou and Nasinu including 6 welfare officers. The training was opened by the Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Social Protection, Mrs. Eseta Nadakuitavuki and led by Mr. Aslam Khan from the Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, SMEs and Communications.
Participants learned useful skills such as how to plan a small business, how to save and budget money and how to manage and grow a business successfully.
At the end of the training, the Director of the Poverty Monitoring Unit, Mrs. Arieta Tagivetaua, encouraged participants to use what they have learned and reach out to the Ministry for support when needed.
She also reminded them that this program helps connect them to more services and opportunities both within and outside of government.
