CHILDREN MUST RECEIVE THEIR MMR, TT AND HPV VACCINATION – MINISTER AKBAR

05/08/2021

The Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts wishes to inform parents and guardians to make necessary arrangements with the nearest Health Centre, Medical Clinic and/or Hospital to seek immunisation for their children.

Since all schools nationwide remain closed, children in Years 1, 6 and 8 may have missed out on receiving their vaccination which protects them against various diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus and cervical cancer.

Minister for Education Rosy Akbar says, “Children normally receive their vaccination in Term 1 and Term 2 of the Academic Year. This is coordinated by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and while most schools are covered in Term 1 a few schools get scheduled for Term 2. A number of students may have missed out on receiving their vaccination due to school closure. I urge parents and guardians to contact the nearest medical facility and make possible arrangements for their children to receive their vaccination. I know times are difficult, but it is important that children are immunised at the earliest”.

Our records confirm that 51% of schools have been covered by the MOHMS and students in Years 1, 6 and 8 have successfully received their vaccinations.

The Ministry advises parents and guardians to check their children’s health card and contact their Heads of School for further information and confirmation. The Heads of Schools would be able to provide confirmation on the School Vaccination Programme.
