CHINESE COMMUNITY DONATES EQUIPMENT FOR COVID-19

Minister for Health and Medical Services Hon. Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete today received personal protective equipment worth more than $13,000 for COVID-19 health workers from the Chinese community in Fiji.
 
Speaking at the event, Minister Waqainabete thanked the Chinese community for their support and contribution during this pandemic.
 
“It is heartening to note that people have donated from their own pockets, even children, to the cause that is before us and for that we are truly grateful,” Minister Waqainabete said.
 
“We have seem to have won the first part of the battle but it is not finished yet and as long as this virus is rampant around the world we have to make sure that we do not let our guards down and that we are always cautious moving forward,” he stressed.
 
Fiji-Chinese Federation for Commerce and Industry General-Secretary, Mr Xiaochun Wu in handing over the equipment expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Ministry of Health staff for their tireless dedication in the fight against COVID-19.
 
“Since the pandemic started in March in Fiji, we, the members of the federation and the Chinese community have always stood together with the Fijian people and the government,” he said.
 
“Now after a 3-month battle, we have won the initial victory in this battle with 14 COVID-19 patients being treated successfully and only four cases which are still active,” he added.
