CJ agrees to prosecutors training

The Chief Justice Anthony Gates has agreed to release lawyers from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution for further professional training.

This follows a written submission by the Director of Public Prosecution Ms Ayeshna Jinasena to Justice Gates.

“I had made a written request to the Chief Justice to consider releasing my officers. I spoke to him yesterday and has told all members of the judiciary of our intended programme and to cooperate. So that’s a plus and I am happy about it.” Ms Jinasena said.

“We prepared a training programme targeting for the next year and as a result I have discussed with our resource persons, mainly Nazhat Shameem. We have identified a day for training and it is the last Friday of each month.”

“I observed that they do not have the infrastructure required and also they have a problem with management. The training is available but I think there should be continuous training because even though a person is trained in a particular field, there should be continuity. Only then  you will refresh what you have done to identify and make a self evaluation of yourself.”
