The Ministry of Finance would like to clarify that since the introduction of Government vehicle leasing in 2008, suppliers for leased vehicles have always been selected through an open, competitive and transparent tender process. This is in line with the Government Procurement Regulations which requires a tender to be called for any procurement above $50,000.
Following the competitive bidding process and a thorough technical evaluation, the Government Tender Board had approved the suppliers of the leased vehicles, including the number and type of vehicles and price per unit.
Since its introduction in 2008, Government has called 6 open tenders for vehicle leasing with the recent one awarded in 2024. The current approved suppliers include Asco Motors, Kia Motors, Carpenters Motors, Niranjans and Palas Auto Service.
