The Ministry of Education permanent secretary, Dr Brij Lal is calling on the school heads and managements to closely coordinate with the Elections Office in preparation for the upcoming general elections.
“Schools have always been used as polling venues in past elections and this year it will be no different. I am therefore urging all head teachers, principals and school managements to collaborate with the Elections Office in establishing polling stations in their schools,” Dr Lal said.
“This is a major event for the nation and the Ministry of Education is pleased to assist in every way possible. School managements and heads are requested to facilitate available resources in their school to assist the elections team in their preparation.
“I received a request from the Elections Office to endorse the use of schools in this upcoming general elections and approval has been granted to ensure that we provide a convenient environment for voting. With 139 days to the general elections, we need to co-operate and support one another to ensure that we have a successful election for a better Fiji,” Dr Lal said.
