The Coalition Government recognises the crucial role of the private sector in driving economic growth and development in the country.
This was highlighted by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Hon. Professor Biman Prasad at the launch of the first phase of the $75 million Hilton Garden Inn Hotel project by Carpenters Group in Suva. (19.09.24)
“The ultimate goal of the NDP is to bring greater prosperity to the nation, reduce poverty, and improve the social and economic wellbeing of our people.”
In the new NDP, he said, promoting private sector participation in the economy is one of the X Factors of building economic resilience.
Professor Prasad added Fiji’s ability to attract large-scale investments like the Hilton Garden Inn is a clear reflection of the trust that investors have in the economy.
“This impressive hotel investment is scheduled to complete by August 2025 and will comprise 178 rooms with amenities such as a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, car park, together with back-up power and water supply.”
He added this is the first phase of the broader Suva Foreshore development, with the second phase being a waterfront retail development that will attract both local and international retailers.
Professor Prasad said this is line with the Coalition Governments National Development Plan 2025-2029 and Vision 2050, with its main goal of “Empowering the People of Fiji through Unity”.
“This vision is translated through three pillars, namely economic resilience, people empowerment and good governance,” he said.
Professor Prasad also called on other businesses to take inspiration from the Carpenters Group and seize the opportunities that are ripe for investment in our growing economy.
