COMMISSIONER THANKS PEOPLE FOR PREPAREDNESS

Commissioner Central Lt Col Laisenia Tuitubou has thanked residents of the central division for taking heed of the early warnings issued by the weather office in preparing for the onslaught of Tropical Cyclone Evan.

“As soon as the weather office had issued a tropical cyclone alert we had informed the communities to be prepared,” Commissioner Tuitubou said.

So far no deaths have been reported in the central division.

“I must thank the community of the central division for taking heed of the advice, the feedback we got from the provincial administrators and turaga ni koro has been really good and we see the effect of the awareness taken by the National Disaster Management Office as well as the Ministry of I Taukei Affairs who have been consistent from the beginning.”

Lt Col Tuitubou said the Commissioner Centrals Office had placed a contingency plan from as early as November last year and had rostered officers to be on alert in case a tropical cyclone developed.

“I look after five divisions that come under the central division and we had developed a duty roster to prepare officers for an event such as this.

He added when the Cyclone was declared for the Central and Western division, they were very prepared in handling the situation and the response from the public was proactive.
