CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICES COMMISSION MEETING

1. The Constitutional Offices Commission (“Commission”) held its second meeting at 10.00am today, Friday, 8 May 2015.

2. The Commission has approved the advertisements for the vacancies of the Auditor-General and the Commissioner of Fiji Corrections Service, which will now be advertised by the Commission both locally and internationally.

3. In accordance with the powers vested in the Commission, the Commission has also selected the Chairperson and members for appointment to the Public Service Commission and the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission, and has provided its advice to His Excellency, the President.

4. Pursuant to section 125(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji (“Constitution”) and acting on the advice of the Commission, His Excellency the President has today appointed the following persons to the Public Service Commission for a term of 3 years:

Chairperson:

Mr. Vishnu Mohan, Chief Executive Officer of ANZ Bank for Fiji and the Pacific.

Members:

Ms. Bhavna Narayan, Commercial Lawyer and Partner at Lateef & Lateef Lawyers;

Mr. Nesbitt Hazelman, Chief Executive Officer, Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation;

Mr. Daksesh Patel, Chief Executive Officer/Company Director, Businessman and member of Fiji Manufacturers Association;

Mr. Kalpesh Solanki, Chief Executive Officer/Company Director, Businessman and member of Textile, Clothing and Footwear Council; and

Dr. Akanisi Kedrayate, USP Academic (Dr. Kedrayate is already a serving member of the Public Service Commission and will continue as a member of the Public Service Commission for the duration of her term of appointment).

5. Furthermore, pursuant to section 45(2) of the Constitution and acting on the advice of the Commission, His Excellency the President has today appointed the following persons to the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission for a term of 3 years:

Chairperson:

The Honourable Mr. Justice Mohammed Ajmeer, Judge of the High Court of Fiji.


Members:

Ms. Sashi Kiran, NGO Advocate and Director of Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development (FRIEND);

Mr. Faiz Khan, Lawyer, Company Director and Chief Executive Officer;

Ms. Selina Leewai, Social Worker and NGO Advocate; and

Mr. Peceli Rokotuivuna, Media Commentator of Radio and Television, Producer and Programme Director of GoldFM, Talkshow and Current Affairs host at FBC, Community Project Advisor and Youth Development Volunteer.
