Every purchase of Fijian-made products is a vote towards supporting local jobs and sustainability.
Speaking at the World Consumer Rights Day celebration in Suva today (14:03:2025), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Hon. Manoa Kamikamica said a just transition demanded bold leadership and inclusive action.
With the theme “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles,” the day calls to champion fair, safe, and sustainable markets.
“A just transition demands equity. Coastal villages like those in Kadavu or Lau, reliant on fishing and farming, need tools to adapt. Indigenous practices—such as tabu marine conservation or organic root-crop farming—offer timeless solutions. Integrating these practices with modern policies protects both people and the planet,” DPM Kamikamica stated.
He said the Government was partnering with retailers to create an environment where sustainable options were accessible and affordable.
“This means providing incentives for green businesses, investing in local supply chains, and strengthening consumer education programs.
“Digital platforms have revolutionised businesses' operations, allowing MSMEs to reach global markets, reduce operational costs, and optimise resources. By integrating e-commerce, digital payments, and blockchain technology for supply chain transparency, we can empower consumers to make informed choices while promoting fair trade practices.”
DPM Kamikamica urged businesses to innovate sustainably, consumers to choose wisely, and partners to invest in Fiji’s green transition.
