Clarification on Native Lands Commission

18/06/2010

The decision by the Prime Minister not to review the ruling of a Native Lands Commission still stands says Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Colonel Pio Tikoduadua.

Colonel Tikoduadua gave assurances to the public that there is not going to be a review, except if there are issues which needed clarification on traditional land boundaries and chiefly title disputes.

“We would like to assure the public that there is not going to be a review, except where there are issues which need clarification on traditional land boundaries and chiefly title disputes.

“At this point the native lands commission will only deal with these issues.

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama had announced the decision at the Kadavu Provincial council meeting given the concerns by people on the issue.

Commodore Bainimarama said the issue was one that government will consider very carefully before a review is done.
