The Global Handwashing Day major sponsor Colgate Palmolive has contributed in supporting school children with educational tools to promote washing hands with soap and water.
Colgate Palmolive marketing manager, Ms Suma Molia said they have their brand program ‘Protex’ with mascot ‘Handy’ going around to schools to boost the concept.
More handwashing with soap means lower rates of infectious disease. For the sponsor it is an ongoing programme throughout the year.
“A simple way of handwashing which at the same time it saves life. The theme is clean hands saves life so with that you can actually prevent non-communicable diseases like diarrhoea and typhoid,” Ms Molia.
The launch of the Global Handwashing Day was organised by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, UNICEF, SOPAC, Live and Learn and Colgate Palmolive.
More than 2000 students from Cathedral Secondary School, Suva Grammar School, Stella Marist, Theological College, Corpus Christi Teachers College, School of Hotel and Catering, and Veiuto Primary School participated in the launch at VPS on Friday.
They joined millions of children around the world who celebrated Global Handwashing Day.
