Coca Cola Games reveals our potentials

04/05/2010

The Coca Cola Games has revealed our potentials to be high achievers in education.

The two day event also reveals the collective efforts of teachers, parents, old scholars, school management, business sectors and students themselves in making the traditional school meet a success.

This illustration is indicative of what we can do when we work together in the development of our children. This was the sentiment of Mr Filipe Bole as Minister of Education.

The meet nevertheless allowed the minnows to scare the mighty in the tracks and field events competitions.

Gone are the days when the prominent schools rule the tracks and field sports.

Today we have winners from the less prominent schools.

This is the vision the Ministry of Education has, that all schools are equal in strengths.

In light of all these, Mr Filipe Bole wishes to say to all students, parents, teachers and those who have the interest of the education of our children at heart that our children have the potential to be all high achievers in education.

The games had revealed that. What needs to be pursued is a change in attitude and mindset amongst all affected parties.

The Minister is saying this because with the beginning of the second term, schools will again prepare themselves for rugby, netball and soccer.

School administrators need to know that at the end the school year what parents want is to see their children become achievers and not just winners.

In closing, Mr Bole congratulates both Suva Grammar School and Adi Cakobau School as overall winners of the 2010 Coca Cola Games.

Similarly he commends the individual effort and brilliant skills each athlete displayed on Friday and Saturday last week which were both superb and fabulous.

The most commendable are the performances and competitive spirits of athletes from some rural and remote secondary schools.

Ends. [03/05/10]

Hon Filipe Bole,
Minister for Education, National Heritage, Culture and Arts, Youth and Sports, Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment
